NIRA Opens Third Registration Center Operating Day and Night Shifts

Mogadishu, Somalia — November 10, 2025: The National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) has this evening inaugurated a new permanent ID registration center in Wadajir District, the second such facility established in the district and the third NIRA registration center nationwide to operate both day and night shifts. The ribbon-cutting ceremony was officiated by H.E. Ali Yusuf Ali (Ali Xoosh), Minister of Interior, Federal Affairs, and Reconciliation, alongside Mr. Abdiwali Ali Abdulle (Timacadde), Director General of NIRA. The opening underscores the Federal Government’s commitment to improving public access to identification services and ensuring citizens can obtain secure and verifiable National IDs with greater convenience.

In his remarks, Minister Ali Yusuf Ali reaffirmed the government’s dedication to decentralizing service delivery and bringing essential registration facilities closer to citizens. He emphasized that the establishment of this second permanent center in Wadajir is part of a broader national effort to reduce overcrowding in existing NIRA sites and make registration more accessible to communities in Mogadishu and across the country.

For his part, NIRA’s Director General, Mr. Abdiwali Ali Abdulle (Timacadde), highlighted that NIRA is intensifying its expansion by opening more permanent centers nationwide and deploying mobile registration teams to reach underserved and remote populations. 

He noted that the new Wadajir Center—joining other centers that now run extended hours—will operate both day and night shifts, making NIRA the first government institution in Somalia to provide continuous public service during night hours. This milestone reflects NIRA’s ongoing commitment to inclusive, citizen-centered service delivery and to ensuring that every Somali has access to a trusted National ID.
