Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre: “All institutions are instructed to link their services to the National ID System”
Mogadishu, Monday, April 7, 2025 — The Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E. Hamza Abdi Barre, today chaired a high-level meeting on the implementation of the National ID system and the integration of the National ID platform with various services provided by government and private institutions to accelerate digitalization and improve public services.
The Prime Minister directed all relevant institutions to fully implement the use of the National ID, announcing that a detailed directive will be issued following the meeting, mandating the full adoption of the National ID. This is a key component of the National Transformation Plan, which focuses on modernizing and digitizing government and private sector services.
The Minister of Interior, Federal Affairs, and Reconciliation, H.E. Ali Yusuf Ali (Ali Hoosh), who also spoke at the meeting, emphasized the importance of linking the National ID with various services across the country. He noted that the implementation of the National ID system will significantly contribute to the nation-building process and the country’s development.
The Director-General of NIRA, Mr. Abdiweli Ali Abdulle (Timacadde), who presented a detailed briefing at the meeting, explained how the National ID card is a vital tool for enhancing the efficiency of government services, accelerating the digitization of various services, strengthening accountability, and building public trust in government institutions.
The Director-General also expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E. Hamza Abdi Barre, and the Minister of Interior, Federal Affairs, and Reconciliation, H.E. Ali Yusuf Ali (Ali Hoosh), for their commitment to implementing the National ID system and their continuous support to NIRA.
