NIRA and UNDP Present Preliminary Results of Country-Level Assessment on Digital Identity Infrastructure
Nairobi, Kenya – 22/08/2024: The National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) and UNDP hosted an information session in Nairobi to present the preliminary results of the Country-Level Assessment of the Governance Framework for National Identity & Digital Public Infrastructure. The session was attended by international donors and partners, including representatives from Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Switzerland, and the World Bank.
The meeting was chaired by the Deputy Minister of Interior, Federal Affairs, and Reconciliation, Mr. Abdihakim Hassan Ashkir, alongside NIRA Director General Abdiweli Ali (Timacadde). The assessment explored the structure, governance, and infrastructure of Somalia’s National Digital Identity system.
During the session, Abdiweli Ali (Timacadde) presented the progress made by NIRA in establishing the system, expressing gratitude to the World Bank and UNDP for their support. "The development of a unified and secure digital identity system is essential for Somalia’s future. We are committed to implementing a system that serves all citizens and supports the country’s development goals," said Abdiweli Ali (Timacadde).
Donors attending the session expressed their continued support for the project, highlighting the importance of a national digital identity system in advancing Somalia’s governance and socio-economic development.
